PBS Documentary Slavery by Another Name set to air February 2012, due in part to the advocacy efforts of Matlock Advertising & Public Relations.
Atlanta, GA; October 28, 2011- Award-winning actor Laurence Fishburne, star of eclectic film, television and stage productions ranging from Othello to The Matrix to “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” will narrate Slavery by Another Name, a new documentary based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Wall Street Journal senior writer Douglas A. Blackmon. The 90¬minute film, produced by Twin Cities Public Television, premieres on February 13, 2012; at 9:00 PM ET on PBS stations nationwide (check local listings).Early on when the Slavery by Another Name novel was first released, Blackmon enlisted Matlock’s support to manage the book tour in the Atlanta market. Later when the financing for the film was in jeopardy and a delay in the film launch seemed imminent, Blackmon once again enlisted the agency’s support to assist with influencer engagement and donor relations. Matlock also assisted with the creative and branding for the influence events. When the film airs early next year Fishburne will lend his trademark baritone to the project, which explores the little-known story of the post-Emancipation era and the labor practices and laws that effectively created new forms of slavery in the south that persisted well into the 20th century. The film airs as part of PBS’ Black History Month commemoration. For more information on Matlock’s influencer engagement and donor relations efforts, please contact us at 404-872-3200.
